Becoming a pore-fessional
What are pores and how do they get clogged?
Pores are actually the openings of hair follicles. The primary function of pores is to release sweat and sebum. However, pores can become clogged with a combination of sweat, oil, dead skin cells, makeup and environmental debris.
What happens when pores become clogged?
Clogged pores typically result in either blackheads or whiteheads. When the oil and dead skin cells combine, they create a dense mixture that clogs up the pore. If the pore is open, the oil at the surface gets oxidised and turns dark (blackhead), if the pore is closed, you get a white head.
Why do my pores look so big?
Pores become enlarged when they are expanded by accumulated oil and debris in the pore. Hormones, sun damage and ageing also play a role in how large a person’s pores appear.
How do I minimise the appearance of my pores?
- Cleanse Regularly - Washing your face regularly is key; our gentle gel cleanser, Kaleanser helps to remove grime and dirt without disrupting your skin barrier. It also helps to rebalance your pH levels.
- Exfoliate - Exfoliate regularly to prevent build up of grime and dirt that clogs your pores. We recommend exfoliating 1-2x a week with Bright Skies, our gentle peeling gel that helps to unclog your pores. Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
- Deep Cleanse - After exfoliating, we recommend going in with a clay mask like Garden Party to absorb all remaining impurities and excess sebum. It also helps to minimise the appearance of your pores after clearing the gunk!
