When the World fell ill in 2020 with COVID-19, mask-wearing has become a part of our daily routine. And it seems like masks will not be going away anytime soon, which is why "maskne" is a real thing.
Maskne is the side effect from mask-wearing, which includes several skin conditions such as
- Contact dermatitis (red rash and/or irritation)
When we wear a mask for prolonged hours, humidity from our breath and sweat is trapped in the area, which increases the risk of acne. The friction of the mask on our skin may also lead to chaffing and irritation.
Here is how you can prevent maskne, while the World gets better. ❤️
1. Change out your masks often
Disposable masks should be changed every 6-8 hours, and reusable mask should be washed daily. Reusing masks can lead to contamination and causes bacteria to harbour around our skin.
2. Use a gentle cleanser
Removing excess oil, sweat, and bacteria with a gentle cleanser is sufficient. There is no need for harsh cleansers that leaves your skin feeling dry as it means that the moisture barrier has been stripped off. This can cause the skin to overproduce oil, resulting in clogged pores.
Kaleanser contains with glycerin, kale and soy extracts that will effectively cleanse and detoxify your pores while retaining skin moisture.
3. Keep your skin clean and hydrated
Our tip: spray Dew Potion on the insides of your mask, to reduce contaminated friction with your skin!
4. Don't skip moisturiser
When your skin is dry, a mask may cause irritation. Applying a lightweight yet protecting moisturiser can help soothe and calm your skin. It also serves as a barrier between your skin and the mask, reducing skin irritation.
