Exfoliation 101 - Why and How to Exfoliate the Skin

Exfoliation is the removal of dead cells on the skin’s surface in order to uncover new cells and improve overall complexion which is just as important as cleansing and hydrating the skin.

It is important to exfoliate at least twice a week! Exfoliation helps to stimulate cell turnover, unclog pores, aid in fading discolouration and hyperpigmentation, boost hydration, destroy breakout-causing bacteria, and enhance the performance of other products in your skincare routine.

How to you exfoliate your skin safely

Exfoliation should be done after cleansing and before applying serums and moisturisers. It is also advised that exfoliation is done during your nighttime skincare routine instead of your morning skincare routine as exposure to the sun may cause skin sensitivity.

The number one rule when it comes to exfoliating is to be gentle! When exfoliating, it is important to be aware of how your skin is reacting to the exfoliation. It can be normal to feel light sensations with slight redness, however if your skin is deep red or progressively getting redder with a burning sensation, rinse you skin off asap - this means that the exfoliator is too harsh for your skin or you have been exfoliating too much.

When this occurs, just scale back the frequency of exfoliating or change up the exfoliator you are using if it's not your regular exfoliator.

Bright Skies is a gentle exfoliator that helps remove dead skin cells, prevent acne and instantly brightens skin tone for a youthful radiance without the use of any microbeads. Perfect for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

Starting your exfoliation regimen may be a little daunting at first due to all the experimentation or trial and error, but once you find the right exfoliator and frequency of exfoliation, the bright, radiant and healthy skin will be worth it!
