How to: control oily skin
When you have oily skin, all you want to do is to cleanse your face super thoroughly to "get rid of the oils", and to "keep it dry" by skipping moisturiser.
However, what you think you're doing "right" for your oily skin will actually make it worse in the long run!
Skipping on moisturiser and over-cleansing your skin can strip your off your skin's natural moisture barrier, leaving your skin feeling tight and dry. This will trick your skin into thinking it is deprived of moisture, and will end up producing more oils – resulting in oiler skin.
3 tips to control oily skin:
1. Cleanse gently
Using a harsh cleanser that contains strong cleansing agents like SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) can dissolve your skin's barrier, causing it feel tight and dry.
Look for a cleanser that is gentle, non-foaming and SLS-free! Our Kaleanser face wash is a good choice to start with.
2. Moisturise properly
Sebum has a purpose. A moisturiser's purpose is to hold water on the outermost layer of our skin, to prevent it from drying out. It also protects the skin from environmental damage accumulated throughout the day.
Try our potent yet gentle daytime moisturiser, Idyllic Fields.
3. Look for sebum-regulating ingredients
A superstar ingredient like Niacinamide, is a great ingredient for regulating sebum production. It helps to boost your ceramide production so your skin stays hydrated, instead of blocking out oil production.
Zinc is also a key ingredient for regulating sebum as it is known to be a sebum inhibitor. Zinc oxide is one of the many forms it comes in and it is also known to be a physical UV Filter.
The 2 mentioned ingredients can be found in our physical sunscreen, Morning Glow – a daily essential.
