Skincare during pregnancy
For most over the counter skin care products, the evidence of harm during pregnancy is not established as they have not been adequately studied. However, it is a good idea to avoid certain ingredients like retinoids, hydroquinone and phthalates.
Due to hormonal changes during pregnancy, one may experience hyperpigmentation and acne.
Fortunately, these resolve after delivery.
In the meantime, here are some skin care tips during pregnancy:
- Uneven skin tone is normal in life but even more apparent during pregnancy. As a result of genetics and hormones, large discoloured patches of skin called Melasma can appear. However, these often fade post-pregnancy, it is important to still protect these conditions by using a high SPF sunscreen.
Use Morning Glow - a broad spectrum sunscreen - everyday, to prevent pigmentation from further darkening.
2. Replace retinol with ingredients like bakuchiol that work the same way as retinol. Sigi Skin’s Dream Capsule Overnight Sleeping Mask is the perfect retinol-alternative night cream for pregnant ladies
3. Use skincare that is plant-based and rich in antioxidants
4. During pregnancy, there is an increase in the amount of hormones in the body. These hormones can increase oil secretion, which in turn may result in increased acne or breakouts.
Exfoliating is a great way to help keep your skin clear and remove excess oil and dead skin cells. Use Sigi Skin’s exfoliating duo - Bright Skies and Garden Party Clay Mask - to smooth the skin’s surface for an even complexion while keeping the skin’s natural moisture barrier, leaving the skin feeling fresh, radiant and blemish free.
