Skincare Hydration Tips

Under Singapore’s sweltering heat, the beads of sweat dripping down your face and oil accumulated on your T-zone are not to be mistaken for skin hydration. In fact, beneath these effects, the heatwave could be leaving your skin parched and dull, making way for many other skin complications.

This is because at the core of healthy skin, just like a healthy body, is hydration. After all, the human skin is made out of 64% water. Fundamentally, plump, clear skin comes from within by drinking enough water and eating foods high in vitamins and minerals to flush out toxins. But sometimes factors like harsh weather, stress and genetic skin conditions might strip our skin of water faster than we can replenish it.

Which is why we may need the help of hydrating skincare products to make up for the loss in water. And no matter your skin type, whether dry, oily or acne prone, prioritising hydration can work wonders for your overall skin health.

Tips to maintain/restore skin hydration:

1. Use a non-stripping cleanser

Ever get that tight and dry feeling in your skin after cleansing? You might have mistaken that feeling for especially clean skin before. But in reality, it’s a sign that your moisture barrier has been compromised. Harsh cleansers with ingredients like sulphates, alcohol and parabens can strip away your skin’s natural moisture and cause irritation. Opt for a gentle cleanser like our Kaleanser. This jelly-like gel cleanser rebalances your skin’s pH and also acts as a double cleansing product, effectively and gently removing makeup, dirt and oil.

2. Layer on hydrating serums

Serums are formulated with high moisture content as well as potent actives to target treatment to different skin needs. As they are usually lightweight, they can be easily incorporated into your skincare routine to provide your skin that extra boost of hydration. We recommend our Blissful Radiance Hydrating Anti-Acne Serum infused with 3 types of hyaluronic acid and 5% sulfur for those with acne-prone, oily skin to control sebum and restore hydration for night and day use. As well as our Youth Beam Anti-Ageing Night Serum packed with a tribiotics complex that replenishes, hydrates and protects your skin’s moisture barrier.

3. Moisturise regularly

In such hot and humid weather, either the heat beats down on us, or we retreat into the air-conditioning of our offices, malls and homes. Both environments however, can dry out the skin quickly. It’s essential we apply a moisturiser day and night to ensure our skin constantly gets the hydrating refresh it needs. Opt for a light-weight, gel moisturiser in the day like our waterless Idyllic Fields Moisturiser packed with 75% oats and polyglutamic acid that draws moisture out of the air and into your skin. And at night, try our Dream Capsule Sleeping Mask once a week in replacement of your regular moisturiser. Formulated with Bakuchiol, a 100% plant-based alternative for retinol, as well as Niacinamide, it restores moisture in your skin throughout the night and lets you wake up with plump skin the next morning.

4. Protect with SPF

Last but not least, the most important thing you can do for your skin is to protect it from the many harmful UV Rays especially in Singapore. If you’re like me, and get sunburnt easily, this step becomes even more important in the heat. Our tip? Layer on a vitamin C serum under your sunscreen to enhance sun protection. We recommend layering our Daylight Oasis Serum formulated with 15% L-Ascorbic Acid, the purest form of Vitamin C, below our best-seller - our 100% physical, hydrating Morning Glow Sunscreen with Avocado and Niacinamide for 4x the sun protection.
