What Happens To Your Skin While You Sleep?

Science has proven that while we sleep, our body goes into repair mode, fixing damage caused during the day and ensuring we wake up looking refreshed and our beautiful best.

During the night, the skin is more permeable too. As such, it’s more receptive to the skincare products you apply. However, the downside is that your skin will lose moisture too.

How to give your skin a good night's rest:

1. Wash your face before sleep

Going to sleep with a dirty face can harm the appearance of your skin. Cleansing your face each night is important to get rid of the day's pore-clogging irritants so that it does not get the chance to sink in and do damage overnight.

2. Get a full night of sleep

Getting the recommended amount of rest each night is the best place to start for your skin. Not getting sufficient sleep may lead to skin aging and lower skin quality.

3. Use an overnight moisturiser

Using a moisturiser helps to keep your skin hydrated overnight, especially if you are sleeping in a low-humidity environment.

4. Use satin or silk pillowcases!

Sleeping on a rough cotton surface can irritate your skin and compress your face for long hours at a time, resulting in wrinkles. If you prefer sleeping on your side, a satin or silk pillow will help to minimize skin irritation and compression.

5. Elevate your head

Elevating your head can help to reduce eyebags and dark eye circles by improving blood flow and preventing blood from pooling.

6. Stay away from sun while asleep

Sleeping with your skin directly exposed to the sun in the morning, or during naps, can have a damaging effect on your skin’s health and appearance.

Paying attention to how we treat our skin during sleeping hours shouldn’t be overlooked!
