What is Bakuchiol? Everything you need to know, explained.

Retinol was a buzzword in 2020. But, this Vitamin A derivative is known to be tricky as it can cause irritation to the skin, especially those with sensitive skin.

Good news for all (especially those with sensitive skin), Bakuchiol to the rescue!

Bakuchiol: A plant extract that offers the same skin benefits of a retinol, without the side effects of irritation. It is derived from a herb named "babchi".

Similar to retinol, Bakuchiol not only has abilities to boost collagen production to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, it also reduces hyperpigmentation, and boosts cell regeneration to aid in healing and to brighten skin.

It also has antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory abilities, which helps to build a strong defense against skin-compromising factors like acne and aging.

As its effects are gentle on the skin, this makes Bakuchiol safe for all skin types, including usage during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Bonus: Bakuchiol is also the vegan alternative to retinols, as some forms of retinols are derived from animal products!

But... is it just as effective as retinol?

YES!

Not only did bakuchiol work as well as retinol when it came to addressing signs of aging, but it was also was less irritating. A natural, non-irritating alternative to retinol that's just as powerful? Yes, please!

However, do note that just like retinol, if you stop using Bakuchiol after achieving your desired skin results, your skin can quickly revert back to its less elastic, less firm, less clear, less balanced ways.

If you want the benefits, you’ve got to keep up the habit.
