Why you shouldn’t wear makeup when you work out

We get it - you want to look good 24/7, even when you’re working out. But the truth is that wearing makeup while working out can do more harm than good. When you exercise, your pores and sweat glands open up in order to cool down your body, and with layers of beauty products on your skin, your pores can get clogged very easily. This in turn leads to more breakouts, blackheads, and skin irritation. We don’t want that!

If you’re coming from a day of activities already wearing makeup, it is recommended that you remove your makeup before hitting up the gym. Gently massage your face with a jelly cleanser that can wash away makeup and impurities without stripping your skin of its natural oils - like our crowd-favourite Kaleanser. Kale extracts help detoxify and brighten the complexion, while soy extracts effectively soothe your skin. This will allow your skin to breathe freely while you exercise. Follow up with a lightweight moisturiser to ensure proper hydration without blocking the pores. Our Idyllic Fields Daytime Moisturiser, which contains 71.9% oats and matcha extract, will keep your skin healthy and happy while you exercise.

What you should wear though, is sunscreen! Never forget your daily SPF, even if the weather seems cloudy or if you are exercising indoors. If your gym has windows, you will be exposed to UV rays. Our Morning Glow Physical Sunscreen will provide you with great UV protection (SPF 50 PA++++) while minimising any pore-clogging. Do make sure you remove the sunscreen after you get home!

The Morning Glow Physical Sunscreen is formulated with niacinamide, avocado,  and acai extracts that allow the product to blend well into the skin, counteracting the harsh UV rays while keeping your skin hydrated.

Try out this simple skincare routine before your next workout session - say goodbye to sweaty and greasy makeup, and hello to clear and bright skin!
