Why your cleanser is not working for you
We are quick to blame our moisturisers, or that new expensive serum you just bought, or even your holy grail sunscreen, for every new breakout. But we tend to neglect the possible root cause of it all - our cleansers or facial wash that we tend to trust so much! There are also some of pointers that might have neglected when cleansing!

#1 Skin feels squeaky clean after wash
Everyone loves a freshly cleansed face, but that squeaky-clean feeling you get after a wash? That’s a no-go. If your skin feels tight and dry after cleansing, it is time to chuck that out! This is a sign that your cleanser is excessively drying out your skin and stripping it of its natural oils that are essential to ensure a healthy microbiome.
To compensate for the lack of oils, your sebaceous gland will produce more sebum, causing clogged pores, white heads, black heads, and acne in the long run!
#2 Skin feels irritated
A tingling or burning sensation after cleansing is definitely unusual. If you do experience this, it could mean that your cleanser may be too harsh for your skin type. Especially if you do have sensitive skin, ingredients such as parabens, sulfates and fragrances and further irritate and cause this sensation.
#3 Not double cleansing
We should always double cleanse - once in the day, and once at night. This is due to bacteria build up on pillows and bed sheets overnight which can cause us to get breakouts if not removed. Any residual skincare from your routine the previous night should also be removed thoroughly before you prepare a clean canvas for your morning routine and allow better absorption! At night, it is important we get rid of all makeup and sunscreen as well so that dirt and pollution accumulated from being outside the whole day do not stand a chance to cause acne!
#4 Not washing your hands
Although we can be quick to blame our skincare, we have to be mindful to wash our hands before cleansing our face or foaming up that formula as any residue or dirt can be transferred to our face as well, causing breakouts!
