The correct order of a skincare routine

The correct order of a skincare routine

Picture this: You’re sitting in front of your skincare collection, staring at all the bottles and tubes wondering which one should go on your skin first, what’s next after that, and after that, and then…

Don’t get overwhelmed! Read on to learn about the correct order of skincare, and how long you should wait between each step to ensure proper absorption. No matter how many steps you have in your routine, always remember that you should go from the thinnest consistency to the thickest.

Step 1: Cleanser

Always start your skincare routine with cleansing so that all impurities are removed, making your skin a clean slate ready to receive all the nourishment you will be feeding it after. To avoid stripping your skin dry, use a gentle jelly cleanser such as Sigi Skin’s Kaleanser Face Wash

Step 2: Toner

Toner helps to rehydrate your skin after cleansing and kickstart your skincare routine. As toners tend to be of watery consistency, they absorb very quickly into your skin - you can even choose to apply multiple layers of toner if your skin needs extra hydration. Gently pat the toner into your skin, or opt for a toner mist that evenly dispenses the product across your face. You can try out Sigi Skin’s Dew Potion Essence Mist, which is completely waterless and contains 55% chamomile extracts. Not only is it a toner, it is also meant for you to bring around and refresh your skin throughout the day!

Step 3: Serums

Wait for around 30 seconds for your toner to absorb, and apply the serum(s) of your choice. During the day, you can go with more lightweight or brightening serums so as not to burden your skin with heavier consistencies. The best serum to use in the morning is a Vitamin C serum, which helps fade hyperpigmentation and boost sun protection when combined with sunscreen. Sigi Skin’s Daylight Oasis Vitamin C Brightening Serum is formulated with a 15% concentration of L-ascorbic acid, the purest and most potent form of Vitamin C on the market.

At night, you can use serums that are targeted at repairing and rebalancing the skin. These can be thicker serums that take slightly longer to absorb into your skin, or serums that contain centella asiatica to calm down your skin after a whole day of activities. Sigi Skin’s Youth Beam Anti-Aging Serum not only contains centella asiatica, but also tribiotics and reishi mushroom extracts that help balance the skin’s microbiome, making your skin less prone to irritations in the long term!

Step 4: Eye Cream

Skincare is all about achieving good skin, but the eye area is oftentimes the most neglected part of the face. Using eye cream regularly reduces the appearance of crow’s feet and dark undereyes, giving your overall look a nice lift. With Sigi Skin’s Gentle Gaze Eye Cream that comes with a cooling metal applicator, you can easily swipe the product and depuff your eyes at the same time!

Step 5: Moisturiser

A skincare routine is incomplete without moisturiser. You may feel that a serum is hydrating enough, but moisturisers are the real deal when it comes to hydration, and most importantly sealing in all the products that you’ve applied before it.

We advise to wait around 1 minute after applying your serums and eye cream before following up with your moisturiser. Again, depending on whether it’s day time or night time, you may want to choose a different moisturiser - lightweight moisturiser for the day, and a heavier cream for the night. Sigi Skin’s Idyllic Fields Daytime Moisturiser is a waterless and lightweight formula that gives your skin the hydration it needs while protecting your skin from free radicals during the day. At night, go to sleep with the Dream Capsule Overnight Sleeping Mask, which contains bakuchiol (a natural alternative to retinol that is pregnancy and nursing safe), purslane, and squalane that work to repair, plump, and strengthen your skin barrier overnight.

Step 6: Sunscreen (in the morning)

The golden rule for skincare is to always wear SPF, rain or shine! Sunscreens are essential to shield your skin from harmful UV rays that cause premature skin ageing and pigmentation. It is also important to reapply sunscreen every 2~3 hours to extend the UV protection.

If you’re looking for a sunscreen that has high SPF protection and keeps your skin hydrated, look no further than Sigi Skin’s award-winning Morning Glow Physical Sunscreen. Containing niacinamide and avocado extracts, the sunscreen melts right into your skin with no white cast, and leaves a dewy finish that acts as a perfect base for makeup.
